While doing some of my family history research I came across Richard HUSSEY 1754-1813 who passed away in Kingston and was buried somewhere with the service performed by G Raymond Rector on November 15th 1813.
Richard is my 4th grt grt uncle.
Your website is very well laid out, I did look for the
HUSSEY name but was unsuccessful. If anyone else out there discovers where Richard was actually buries perhaps you can let me know.

Hi i was just wondering if any one could help me?
I am researching my family tree and it seems that all of my ancestors on my mother’s side lived in Corfe Castle and Kingston! I am stuck on my 5th great grandmother
Sarah Tatchell, she was born abt 1785 and married in Kingston to a man called George Grant, I can’t find any infomation on her other than her maiden name was Tatchell, which is on the marriage certificate! I have found lots of "Tatchells" living in the area at that time but no Sarah that matches her age! Any infomation would be great, thankyou!
Sarah.

Thank you Martin for this site. I was brought up near Kingston, so was christened there in 1955 and my parents, Jack and Pat Barnes had married there 2 years earlier in 1953.
We were married at St James in 1980 but moved to Wareham some time afterwards. There is a special atmosphere in this unique building that keeps drawing me back.
Thank you also to Terry Hardy for developing the history project which I'm sure will continue to grow. This site is great to encourage any of us who have, or have had, connections with the village of Kingston.

I have previously messaged with this excellent site (early 2010) primarily referencing my dad Raymond Hooper, son of William, whose gravestone is in the church graveyard. Unfortunately I have overlooked a change in my email address at the end of last year.  If there have been any emails I may have missed, please forward accordingly.
Many thanks,

Saw your website. It's fascinating. Surprised to see a photo of Henry Hooper, who was my 2 x great grandfather. His daughter Susan Mary Hooper (b.1870) was my great grandmother, who married James Wheeler.

Saw one guestbook message dated last year from Paul Raymond Hooper. I would like to contact him, as his father Raymond Hooper of Northville, Bristol was a cousin to my step grandmother Ivy Mann and her brother Reg Wheeler, both of Bristol.

I visited Kingston once back in 1985.

Congratulations for the excellent and informative website.

Congratulations on this wonderful site. I was especially thrilled to see old post cards of Hill Bottom. I had been shown the area in 2007 but we were unable to walk right down into it as it is now privately owned. I would have loved to do this as I believe my Hunt ancestors lived there pre 1850.
I shall be back this year to once again look over the areas our
Hunt, Stickland, Crumpler and other families lived before making the long journey to Australia.

Have just discovered you !!! Lots of fantastic information about Kingston and it's People etc. Wonderful.

Previously I'd only read The Dubber.

My Husband Jack used to love to sit on the Dorey seat at the Church looking over to Corfe Castle after he'd riden his bike into Kingston.

When he died in 1998, Rev Robert Watton allowed us to inter his ashes in the Church Yard in 1999. In 2000 his Eldest daughter Rachel married Danny in St James's Church & Rev Watton performed the Service. Later their 3 daughters (Isla, Grace & Skye) were all Christened in the Church.

I continue to attend 2 Services a month at St James (at journey of 23 miles over from my Ferndown home, but it saddens me that the numbers in church are small and it doesn't get the TLC it should.

This is a great site and part of the brilliant OPC website. My particular interest in Kingston is that my great-grandparents John and Martha Langtree moved to the village from Corfe Castle when they married in 1865, living in West Street. I would be interested to know which house it was - can anyone help please? During her long widowhood, Martha worked for Lord Eldon and cleaned the new church which was then still his private chapel. Of their 3 surviving sons, George and his wife Sarah stayed in the village, living in South Street - the cottage that was hit by a bomb during WW2. I visited Kingston in 1961 and recall seeing the cottage still in its damaged state. I am very grateful to them for having lived in such a wonderful area! I am also related to many other Purbeck families including Farwell, Hooper and Meader.

I am a regular visitor to the village over many years, more recently annually to commemorate my father Raymond Hooper on the anniversary of his death in in Bristol in September 1999. My mother, nee Ada Gladys Saunders (since deceased), brother and sister scattered his ashes around the church grounds, shortly after his death, where he married mum of Langton Matravers on September 4th 1937. His father William's gravestone is pictured in your pages. Dad was born and grew up in South Street and went to Kingston School. I was thrilled to see his class picture c1920/21, where dad is seated 3rd right in the front row.

Thank you for your excellent website which records my family's roots and ancestry, and which I will continue to review regularly

Loved your site, but it didn't help me. I was searching for any records of Marie Ernestine Prive' who married Edward Elliwood Allison Dec. 17, 1918.

Also looked for John Baptiste Bosley, Mary Bosley (could be beausoleil) or Leon Prive'.

If anyone knows of pictures, proof of marriage for Marie and John, a record of death for Edward Allison, or a record of birth for John, please let me know!

Thanks so much!

Excellent site. Dorset is my favorite county for holidays. Enjoyed walks around Swanage this summer. Been reading Ilay Cooper's book today (Purbeck revealed) with its fascinating tales of Encombe Estate, and other of his adventures. Seems that a multi-millionaire now owns it. Wonder if the footpaths through it will still be open to the public - hope so!

I have such fond memories of this beautiful village having the privilege of growing up there from a newborn baby until my early 20 s, living in 4 South Street along with my parents John and Joyce Lock and my brother Darren Lock. I feel lucky to have been fortunate enough to have had what I can only describe as the best childhood where we were free to play and explore all the nooks and crannies Kingston had for us to enjoy. I am able to share these memories with my own children and feel honoured to be part of the history of Kingston Village.

This is a fantastic effort and deserves praise. I lived in South Street until I was 22(ish) and still regularly visit my mum Joyce. Its great to have this history and recent news documented. I will try and get some photo's and info together from my memories of the 70's and 80's in Kingston. The village has changed so much with holiday and second homes, but this gives me hope that the heart is not leaving village life. Thank You!
