The Hunt Family: Descendants of George & Charlotte Hunt
by Lesley Mann
My Great Great Grandfather George Hunt was born in December 1826 and was baptised on Christmas Day 1826 at Worth Matravers, Dorset. On Christmas Day 1849 he married my Great Great Grandmother Charlotte Roe, born at Corfe Castle in 1827. George Hunt was an Agricultural Labourer and worked at Encombe House.
George & Charlotte had 5 children:
George was the son of Robert Hunt born 1803 and Eliza Corben born 1805 both of Worth Matravers. Robert was an Agricultural Labourer and he and Eliza had a large family of 11 children. Robert died in 1856 whilst living at Bottom, Worth Matravers.
Robert's Father was another Robert Hunt born 1776 of Dorset and his mother was Margaret Shepherd (Peggy) born 1781 of Winterborne Kingston. Robert (Senior) lived to the ripe old age of 87 years and died whilst living at Langton Matravers. He and Margaret had 8 children.
I would love to add anything new to my tree and would appreciate it very much if
anyone had any more information for me. My e-

This photo provided by Tony Baker was taken at the wedding of Walter William Hunt
born 1882 in Kingston (son of Robert Charles Hunt born 1857 & Eliza Hunt nee Tatchell
born 1861) and Annie Prudence Barber born 1886 in Southsea. Annie was the eldest
sister of Tony’s Grandmother Ada Barber. The wedding took place in Alverstoke on
8 May 1909.
Walter was serving in the Royal Marines in Portsmouth at the time. Walter
& Annie were childless and they fostered Tony’s mother and her brother for several
years until Annie's death in 1934.
